OOO.209 Cardio Confusion
goodbye sweet balance cycle: you improved my core while destroying my wrists and mangling my elbows. after a short recovery week, i will pay homage to your more refined cousin, P90X2.
on the road to 40: bring it motherfuckers…

this is going to be the last resistance exercise of this cycle. i had planned for the balance cycle to go up to 13 weeks, a typical 90 days + last recovery week but since P90X2 came out, and contains last of similar things i’ve already been working on between the Endurance/Strength Cycle and this one, i might as well just move onto it.
i’m excited and apprehensive: a lot of what i’ve seen so far in the videos is familiar (which is oddly disappointing) but also very strange (the rumble roller and extensive use of it, the 2 days of “rest”, etc.).
either way, starting Christmas, the next cycle begins!

Balance Cycle, Week 7, BUDOKON
Budokon – Strength & Balance
I love this workout: it’s more yoga-esque than full blown yoga: but it’s got a nice cardio, ballistic stretching thing going on that i dig. MZ likes it too and it’s a nice change of pace from strictly couple’s yoga saturday.
but the big news is this: we’re going to cut short the Balance Cycle, stopping it with a shortened week 8, recovery. starting Christmas, P90X2!
i’ve made some slight modifications:
1. we’re still going to alternate the Yee, Horton Yogas with Budokon.
2. i’ve added 1 core and 2 cardio’s during the recovery week. otherwise it would only be yoga and stretching.
3. for the Performance Phase, i’ve moved around the rest / yoga pair to the back end of the week as opposed to the pair being in the middle.
Balance Cycle, Week 7, LEGS
OOO.211 On One Leg – Legs
Russian Squats 17/17 +10PU
½ Moon Lunges 14/14 +3CU
Mason Pumps 22/22 +10PU
Royal Dancer Kicks 12/12 +3CU
Seat Drops 12/12 +10PU-L
One Legged Chair 45/45 sec +3CU
Teeter Totter 12/12 +10PU-R
Quarter Hop 27/27 +3CU
Single Leg Wall Squats 20sec / 2x +10PU-D
Standing Split Reach 10/10 +3CU-CG
Penalty PushUps/ChinUps (DEPRECATED)
+PU & +CU are Push Ups and Chin Ups respectively. I had incorporated these as 3 sets at the end initially, but found myself ahead of Horton during this routine and decided to work alternating sets of each inbetween each leg exercise and in so doing pull off 2 additional sets. working the legs always, always sucks but getting to the end, especially with routines likes these that are straight through without any repeatos, always feels great.
Balance Cycle, Week 7, CARDIO 1
OOO.201 Cardio Intervals
96/81 (174/147) 739/44
ach, i completely did the wrong routine. i was SUPPOSED to do Cardio Confusion & Abs Core +! i’ve since moved it over to the end of week 7. hopefully MZ will do Yee for Core tonight (which she did with me, awesome..). mom went even further than i thought she could during the cardio, even further than what i recommended for her. the sudden desire: wouldn’t it be great for me to live to 80 and for you to still be with me at 97?
Balance Cycle, Week 7, CHEST/BACK
OOO.301 Chest & Back on Balls
Pull-up X (Wide Pull) 9
Stability Ball Plyo Push Up 14
Core Crunch (Iso) Chin Up 11
2-Ball Push-Up & Side Balance 12
Levers (Close Grip Pull) 6
4-Ball Push Ups 15
Chin-Pull (Switch on the Bar) 8 not on bar
The Possible (1 Front Ball) 13
L-Pull Ups (Close Grip Chin) 2R +5
3-Ball Plyo Pushup 12 sloppy
Switch Grip Pull Up (RF) 9
(Feet on) Stability Ball Push Ups 16
In & Outs (Out to In) 9
Swimmer’s Push Ups (2 Ball) 14
Flip Switch Pull Ups (LF) 9
Double Wide Push Ups 17
Double Wide Pull Ups 5
Military Push Ups Stability Ball 8 w/2 front balls
2Towel Pull Ups (Real Chin Ups) 2.75
One Ball Plyo (On/Off) Pushups 8
both elbows very funky. not much improvement on pulls but this could be because i’ve been doing random chin ups (went from 2 to 4 in the last 2 weeks) Pavel style at least 3 times a day. push however made some ridiculous gains. wonder if the joint ache pre-workout was in anticipation: notice that arms felt taut and ready to burst moreso than chest or back.
Balance Cycle, Week 6, REST
RY.Power Yoga – Flexibility
mostly rest, should’ve done some ab work as well but just wasn’t up to it. odd soreness in the elbows and pee’s like nuts: too much water but according to some, i should be drinking .1 fl oz per calorie burned. so let’s say i chew through 2000 calories a day, i should be drowning through 200 oz of water. insane. i got up to 120 oz and i couldn’t stop peeing.
Balance Cycle, Week 6, CARDIO 2
P90X+ Interval X Plus
90/75 (163/135) 756/53
Didn’t really feel like “bringing it”, however it looks like overall my heart rate has steadier, slower than previous workouts (last Interval X was back in late October), which is supposedly a good thing. MZ had said something like this would happen, that it would become increasingly harder to exhaust your heart.
but my heart’s already exhausted but that of course is a different thing altogether. and not my heart either. i’ve always had an old soul, despite my desperate dreams of immortality.

a little bit easier but still harsh, good strong sweat, labored breathing. standard fair. increased the weight and was able to swing it. there feels room for a bit more increase, but i don’t want to lose form. kinda defeats the purpose otherwise.
